Information Event Tipperary

Local SMEs in the food and drink, life sciences and renewable energy sectors seeking to expand their business, grow staff numbers or introduce new products/services are invited to a special information event this month and learn how they can benefit from the business support and networking opportunities offered by the BUCANIER Programme.

BUCANIER (Building Cluster and Networks in Innovation Enterprise and Research), which was officially launched earlier this year, is an EU funded business support programme designed to bring about innovation and greater productivity for small businesses along the Irish seaboard.

The BUCANIER project information event will take place at the Anner Hotel, Thurles on Wednesday, 16th May from 09:30 am to 12:00 am in collaboration with the Local Enterprise Office Tipperary. Local SMEs interested in attending are asked to register in advance by email to michael.begley@tipperarycoco.ie. There are no fees or costs involved for the participating SMEs and the project is fully funded through the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Ireland-Wales cooperation programme.

The rationale behind BUCANIER is the successful partnering of higher education institutions and public bodies to bring about innovation and greater productivity for small businesses along the Irish seaboard. BUCANIER sees Institute of Technology Carlow, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) and Wexford County Council work as a collective with Pembrokeshire County Council, Carmarthenshire County Council and Swansea University Medical School in Wales for the benefit of 120 small businesses in Ireland and Wales.

“BUCANIER can provide individual SMEs with one-to-one specialist mentoring, sectorial and cross-border networking events, specialist workshops on issues such as Brexit, intellectual property and service design, as well as other supports based on individual SME needs”, commented Brian Ogilvie, Head of Research and Commercialisation Support at Institute of Technology Carlow. “This is an incredible opportunity for SMEs to expand and grow and we look forward to meeting with and working with some great local SMEs”.
